Committee: Special Events Committee

Goals

• Create an overview of April - December 2026
• Decide on priority events; how we can do less ‘extra’ events this year and focus more on sewing our pieces for the show and building in special events around the exhibitions we will have
• Identify which events need volunteers and setup support, can we tighten the set up for special events, fundraising etc
• Assign any next steps and how we want to move forward as a team/committee

2026 Year Overview

  • Organize and Install exhibition at TAC
  • 5/16 — Monthly Gathering at Creators Cottage
  • 4/19 — The Quilters (documentary on Netflix) viewing and discussion at UW Union South
• May
  • 5/1 — Opening at TAC
  • 5/8 — Jalessa’s graduation celebration
  • 5/16 — Monthly Gathering at Creators Cottage
  • Other events at TAC
• June
  • 6/1/26 — Exhibition comes down
  • 6/20/26 —Monthly Gathering at Creators Cottage
    • Juneteenth (tentative) maybe ask TAC folks and MCSP if people are interested in organizing something more accessible/low-key (indoors, parking available, versus going and tabling at Juneteenth).
    • Maybe we just have a normal Saturday gathering at the Cottage; make it a special celebration with us, could even shorten it so people can get the other celebrations around town if they’d like
    • Many members voiced that they didn’t like that we had to divide and conquer last year and that tabling at
• July
  • Main goal this month is make major strides on exhibition quilts, finish pieces for August install at MPL
  • 7/18 — Monthly Gathering at Creators Cottage

  • MPL show goes up this month!: finish (2) pieces each by Friday, August 7th!
  • 8/15 — Monthly Gathering Monthly Gathering at Creators Cottage
  • MPL show: finish pieces; Carlee & team install the exhibition this month
• September
  • TBD (beginning of Sept): Library show opens
  • 9/10–9/12 — Quilt Expo at Alliant Energy Center
    • we will definitely table, but we want to strategize what to bring/focus on
      • small items for sale there (under $50) only; want to sell card sets of MCSP pieces in the exhibition that we can print at the cottage
        • Carlee has examples and ran the numbers on pricing
  • 9/19/26 — Monthly Gathering at Creators Cottage
• October
  • 10/3 — Black Women’s Wellness Monona Terrace — is this something we want to table at? or attend? or neither?
  • 10/8–10/12 — Trip to Kentucky
